ERB References for the
THE APACHE NOVELS I
The War Chief ~ The Apache Devil
Ed Burroughs drew upon his personal experiences from when he served as a trooper
with the U.S. 7th Cavalry at Fort Grant, Arizona -- but --
since his Cavalry adventures took place 30 years earlier,
to fill in gaps in his recollections he turned to his library to fill in details.
Last month we shared a list of books and periodicals in
the ERB Bio Time Line, which Ed cited as being the primary references he used in
the writing of his Apache novels.
We have completed our research on these volumes and
the results are now displayed in this week's feature article.

FEATURE 10 Archive: CUSTER'S LAST BATTLE
By Captain Charles King
Harper's New Monthly Magazine Aug. 1890
King was ERB's Commandant at the Michigan Military Academy ~
The celebrated Indian fighter and writer was a role model for the young cadet
and perhaps the biggest influence on Burroughs' writing style and
his lifelong fascination with the military.
