JAMES SPRATT INTERMISSION
Kaor, Readers:  At this point I suppose you all know we're at the half-way point in my illustrated version of ERB's wonderful A Princess of Mars. There are a couple of reasons why I have to take a break here.  The first is that the next Chapter, 15, Sola Tells Me Her Story, is drawn, but not colored yet, and it's gonna be a doozy.  As we began this weekly serialization online at ERBzine, I had about ten chapters done, and oddly, I've found two things occurring which I didn't at first expect--my drawing is improving, and taking a bit longer, partly because I'm getting into the swing of the technique and taking it more seriously in the awareness of the kind attention of you viewers, and I think by this point in the writing of the original book, ERB was getting into the swing of it, too.  The background had been laid, and somehow I find that he was able to get more action into fewer words, which means a concurrent increase in the number of frames that I feel I'm obliged to draw, in order not to skip any anticipated and long-beloved scenes.  I'm going to finish the book, and I'm going to do it as well as I can, even if it means that serialization will have to extend to two weeks between chapters, or perhaps a half-a-chapter a week, because they are getting longer, but I feel it unwise to rush the production of anything which is designed to last through time, and therefore shall take as long as I need, within reason.  Hey, don't worry, I probably get a bigger kick out of seeing the new stuff as some of you do, so, in the immortal words of the Gubernator, "I'll be BACK!!" (Next week!)
Thanks, James Killian Spratt, Artist and master sculptor
