The Burroughs Bibliophiles is a non-profit literary society dedicated to stimulating interest in and preserving the works of the great American author, Edgar Rice Burroughs:  “The Grandfather of American Science Fiction.”

The Burroughs Bibliophiles is an international organization with headquarters at the Burroughs Memorial Collection in Louisville, Kentucky, where the magazine and newsletter are published and where the board of directors makes plans.

The official publications of the organization are The Burroughs Bulletin - a glossy magazine published quarterly -- and the Gridley Wave -- a monthly newsletter.

The Bibliophiles hold an annual convention in a different location each year. They have christened this event a “Dum-Dum,” named after the meetings of the anthropoid apes described by Burroughs in his Tarzan novels.

A complete history of the Bibliophiles by George T. McWhorter is featured in ERBzine 0148

This issue of the Bulletin is dedicated to George T. McWhorter, the person who reinvigorated The Burroughs Bibliophiles in 1990 when he restarted The Burroughs Bulletin as a quarterly journal (hence the appellation of "New Series") and The Gridley Wave as a monthly newsletter. He maintained a regular publication schedule for 20 years, with 82 issues of the Bulletin and 245 issues of The Gridley Wave.

As curator of Rare Books and then the ERB Memorial Collection at the University of Louisville since 1972, George is now world-renowned as an expert on Burroughs.
