Friday started bright and early: 8:30 am call for the Burroughs Bibliophiles Board of Directors Meeting.
It's open to the all DD attendees, but more importantly for Bill Hillman.
His nomination for Board member was accepted by all present, so now, he's legit ;-)
Chairman of the Board is Laurence G Dunn. Directors are Mike Conran, Bill Wagner,
Dick Spargur, Jim Thompson; Henry Franke, Joan Bledig, Brad Vinson, Bill Hillman,
with Secretary Huck Huckenpohler.
It was an open meeting and guests viewed procedings from their chairs around the room.
Spectator Jonathan Hart is seen in the background.
.
Main topic of interest for some of us was DD 2013.
John Tyner of the National Capital Panthans and Joan Bledig of the Chicago Muckers
suggested that the 2013 Dum-Dum be held in Louisville, KY
to accommodate George McWhorter, our esteemed curator
of the renowned ERB collection at the Ekstrom Library, University of Louisville.

THE BURROUGHS BIBLIOPHILES AUCTION

.
Mike Conran and Stan Galloway preparing for
the annual Burroughs Bibliophiles auction.
All items were donated by hucksters and ERB fans.
Scott Tracy Griffin: the auctioneer...a new role for Tracy
...will this become a life-long career instead of films?
Nahhhh... But I think he had fun :-)

A SAMPLING OF THE TREASURES UP FOR AUCTION

.
The most notable items were three beautiful John Carter-related leather carvings by Bob Hibbard,
a silk tie embossed with Tarzan of the Apes image by Kevin Robinette,
and the incredible quilt and cushion donated by an "anonymous" donor who has very close ties with ERB.Inc ;-)
.

.
These leather creations by Bob Hibbard were generously donated to the BB auction by Bob.

A memento of the Tarzan Centennial.

The famous command from the John Carter film.

John Carter's faithful Woola.
Brad Vinson won the bids on the first two, but feeling sorry for Jim Thompson, Brad finally allowed Jim to buy Woola.

THE MYSTERY QUILT

.
This magnificent ERB/Tarzan/John Carter Centennial cushion and quilt were
created and donated by a very talented person who wished to remain anonymous.
They fetched record prices for auction items.

The amount raised, which will help support Dum-Dum 2013, was the highest ever - $2,000.00 :-)
