LLANA JANE'S DEDICATION DURING THE UNVEILING CEREMONY
"Today we gather to honor the 150th birthday of Edgar Rice Burroughs,
a man whose imagination gave the world timeless adventures and unforgettable heroes.
Best known as the creator of Tarzan and John Carter of Mars,
Burroughs built entire worlds that continue to inspire readers, dreamers, and storytellers across generations.
His vision stretched far beyond his own time, planting the seeds of modern science fiction and adventure.
But before the novels and the fame, Burroughs served his country.
He was stationed with the 7th U.S. Cavalry at Fort Grant in the Arizona Territory,
where he witnessed firsthand the challenges of frontier life.
He also encountered the legendary Buffalo Soldiers, whose discipline, courage, and resilience
left an impression that shaped his view of honor and perseverance.
In both his service and his writing, Burroughs showed us that courage takes many forms—
whether in the saddle on a rugged frontier or in the pages of a story that carries us to distant worlds"

KATE'S DEDICATION DURING THE UNVEILING CEREMONY:
"Good morning, Willcox and Circle of friends, my name is Kate Bonnaud and my son Aaron and I are so happy to be here today.
Thank you to the Sulphur Springs Valley Historical Society, and Apache Devils chapter of the Burroughs Bibliophiles.
This is such a special honor to remember the early days of my great grandfather.
Though my great grand-dad’s time in Arizona was short, the frontier imagery, sense of danger, and clash of cultures lingered in his imagination.
Themes of survival and hostile environments, clashes between civilizations, and heroic endurance
can all be traced back, in part, to his formative experiences in this Arizona territory.
From an early age, my grandfather wanted to serve country first as a Cavalry man, and then after the attack on Pearl Harbor
and witnessing the chaos firsthand, he was called to serve his country again and volunteered as a war correspondent during World War II.
Here,
in Willcox, we honor the Arizona roots of a man whose courage, resilience, and love of adventure,
shaped his journey from Cavalry-man to cultural icon.
Thank you so much for being here today and being part of this very special dedication on his 150th year birthday!"
