THE LEGACY OF EDGAR RICE BURROUGHS, INC.

"One hundred years ago, Edgar Rice Burroughs founded his own company
and became the first author to incorporate himself.
Today Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., is still owned by his heirs; operates out of Tarzana, California,
on the property of Mr. Burroughs’ former ranch; and is actively engaged in promoting his legacy
and licensing the rights to his works of wonder and imagination." ~ ERB, Inc.

Congratulations on the 100th anniversary of Edgar Rice Burroughs. Inc.!

Since 1923, this family owned company has kept the Burroughs legacy and creations alive with millions of fans worldwide.

We, Bill and Sue-On, have wonderful memories of our many times in Tarzana with Danton Burroughs and the amazing team at ERB, Inc
who have provided us with incredible support, inspiration and friendship through the years.

A few of our favourite memories include:
* In 1971 we spent two afternoons exploring the Tarzana offices and warehouse with Hully Burroughs, Joan Burroughs and Jim Pierce.

* A 2003 highlight was receiving the Burroughs Bibliophiles Lifetime Outstanding Achievement Award from Danton Burroughs
and George McWhorter at the Louisville Dum-Dum.

* It was a thrill to be invited by the ERB, Inc. team and Phil Collins to join them for the Opening Night Premieres of
the Tarzan the Stage Musical in Broadway, Holland, and Hamburg.

* Another special memory was our chance to attend the special pre-showings on the Disney lot of the Animated Tarzan and John Carter of Mars films

* Our many visits and phone conversations with Danton were treasured times.
~ We spent many hours in the Tarzana ERB, Inc. warehouse documenting the shelves
full of letters, documents, photos and the books that had survived the diastrous fire.

~ Many more hours and days were spent at Danton's home going through his
personal family treasures: photos, books, letters, films, and rare collectibles.

~ I even handled the container where ERB's ashes had been stored before
most were buried under the tree in front of the Tarzana office.

~ We made numerous trips together to Danton's father's long-sealed storage lockers down in the valley.
We loaded the treasures -- (John Coleman Burroughs' personal collections of art, books, memorabilia, etc.) into a trailer and
moved them all up to the original Tarzana ranch property (it was still owned by the Burroughs family and ERB, Inc. at that time.)

~ A special memory was the screening of rare films: family footage taken in the '20s by photo buff ERB
and later family shots and wartime footage taken by WWII military photographer uncle Hulbert.

* A flood of memories overcome me when I recall Danton's death on May 1, 2008:
I spoke to Dan on the phone a few hours before he died.
There had been a fire in one of his special memory rooms and he was very broken up.
The next morning I received word of his passing.
Dan's family and ERB, Inc. requested that I deliver a eulogy at their celebration of his life.
I flew down from Canada to deliver my respects.
A very sad memory.

Sue-On's early years were spent in South China and Hong Kong and she immigrated to Canada when she was 10.
But she was introduced to the world of ERB fandom and the wonderful Burroughs books soon after our mariage in 1966.
She is especially fond of the Mars books. . . but of course Tarzan is always there.

Since our wedding we have been inspired to make annual road trips across America
to visit all the places where Burroughs had lived, travelled and written about.
We also travelled to many of the exotic places described in his books,
such as the wilds of Sumatra, Angkor Wat in Cambodia and across many of the world's jungles.

My introduction to Burroughs goes back to the late '40s and early '50s when I discovered the Burroughs characters in
movies, Big Little Books, comics, Sunday pages, radio shows, and the G&D Tarzan hardcovers.
I've been hooked ever since.
My favourite books are THE RETURN OF TARZAN and CHESSMEN OF MARS . . . but really, there are so many more.

Following Danton's suggestion and encouragement and with the support of ERB, Inc.,
we have created over 15,000 Burroughs-related Webpages in ERBzine.com
and over a dozen tribute Web Sites devoted to the Life and Works of Edgar Rice Burroughs.
Since 1996 we have published large weekly Webzines EVERY Friday.
They are all stored in the ERBzine site in searchable archives.
We also have numerous Burroughs-related accounts on Facebook and Twitter.

Actually, Edgar Rice Burroughs' own life story is so intriguing that
I have spent many decades documenting the amazing life of "The Master of Fantasy Adventure"

Once again, Congratulations folks for keeping
Mr. Burroughs' dreams and legacy alive for over a century.
