Jacket rubbed and worn, extremity chips, tear and chip to top of front panel, lower 1½" of spine panel missing; else very good in fair to good jacket.


Tarzan and the Ant Men ~ Grosset & Dunlap

Frontis. by J. Allen St. John. Red cloth lettered in black, jacket. With the original color pictorial dust jacket designed by J. Allen St. John, with wrap-around scene showing Tarzan and an army of 18-inch high men riding miniature horses. Heins T11.3; Zeuschner 534. Jacket with some chipping at the spine ends and edges, 1" tear at lower edge of front panel, corners rubbed and creased; else near fine in very good jacket.


The Tarzan Twins ~  P.F. Volland 

Illus. in color by Douglas Grant. 8¼x6, cloth-backed pictorial boards, jacket. Seventh Edition. Presentation copy inscribed and signed by the author on the front free endpaper, "To Edward H. Gilbert, with all good wishes, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Tarzana, May 27, 1939." Also signed on the dedication-page by ERB's three children, to whom the book is dedicated: Joan Burroughs Pierce, Jack [i.e. John Coleman] Burroughs, and Hulbert Burroughs, and with a later signed inscription by ERB's grandson "Danton Burroughs, Sept. 213, 1989, I am so glad to know you, your friend, Danton." Joan has also signed on the front pastedown, facing her father's inscription. The twins, Dick and Doc, are captured by fierce cannibals, and do magic tricks to escape and fine Tarzan. The seven Volland editions of this book published between 1927 and 1932 were virtually identical, varying only in the edition statement on the copyright page, and in the price, which fell from $1.50 to $1.00 and finally $.75. The present copy has the rare original dust jacket. Heins T12.7; Zeuschner 656. Darkening and rubbing to the jacket, a few tears, ½x1½" piece missing from top of rear panel, tape and paper repairs on verso; else fine in very good jacket.


Tarzan and the Tarzan Twins ~ Canaveral
Illus. in black-&-white by Roy G. Krenkel. Cloth, jacket. Signed on the dedication-page by Burroughs' three children to whom the book is dedicated, Joan Burroughs Pierce, Jack Burroughs, and Hulbert Burroughs; Hulbert has inscribed the book to Ed Gilbert on the same page, and also inscribed and signed the jacket; and Joan has signed the book a second time on the front free endpaper. This Canaveral publication combines "The Tarzan Twins" and "Tarzan and the Tarzan Twins with Jad-Bal-Ja, the Golden Lion." Heins T12.3; Zeuschner 658. Near fine to fine in like jacket.

Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle ~ McClurg
Illus. with 5 plates by J. Allen St. John. Green cloth lettered in black, jacket. First Edition, First Printing. Presentation copy inscribed by Burroughs on the front free endpaper, "To Eddie Gilbert, wishing him a Merry Christmas, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Tarzana, Dec. 25, 1928." Gilbert recalls this as being "My first Christmas present from ERB." With the help of an American, Tarzan discovers two lost cities of 12th century knights while battling Arab slavers. This is the last Tarzan title published by McClurg, and one of the scarcer ones. Zauschner indicates only 7,500 copies of the four printings were produced. Heins T13.1; Zeuschner 682.The original color pictorial dust jacket worn with several tears and chips, tape repairs on verso; volume spine a little faded, wear at ends, shaken a little, very good in good to very good jacket.

 Tarzan and the Lost Empire ~ Metropolitan
Frontis. by A.W. Sperry. Orange cloth lettered in black, jacket. First Edition. Tarzan stumbles across an ancient Roman province lost in Africa while searching for a missing explorer. Heins T14.1; Zeuschner 638. The original color pictorial dust jacket is darkened, spine and rear cover stained, split along front joint, tape repairs on verso; volume with light staining to rear cover, slightly visible on spine, hinge starting to crack after half-title, else very good in good jacket.

Tarzan at the Earth's Core ~ ERB, Inc.
Frontis. by J. Allen St. John. Tan-gray boads lettered in blue, jacket.Tarzan joins Jason Gridley's dirigible expedition into Pellucidar to rescue Emperor David Innes. This copy is "one of the few survivors of a near-disastrous fire that occurred in our store-room on Saturday, May 3, 1958. The fire started as a result of the spontaneous combustion of old Tarzan motion pictures printed on nitrate film...," with printed label to that effect mounted on the front pastedown. Heins T15.5; Zeuschner 669. Jacket with slight smoke-damage to the spine; volume top page edge darkened, else near fine in like jacket.

Tarzan the Invincible ~ ERB, Inc.
Blue cloth lettered in red, jacket. First Edition. Inscribed by Burroughs on the front free endpaper, "To Eddie Gilbert, with all good wishes, Edgar Rice Burroughs." This is the first hardcover book published by Burroughs' own publishing company. Tarzan thwarts attempts by Russian-led Communists to steal from the magnificent treasure vaults of Opar. Heins T16.1; Zeuschner 733. The dust jacket, an original, is evidently one which was uncirculated and discovered later in the Burroughs' archives. It is in near fine condition, exhibiting just slight wear to the spine ends. The volume spine is darkened, mottled darkening to the covers, else very good in near fine jacket.

Heins TT17.1; Zeuschner 783. The dust jacket, an original, is evidently one which was uncirculated and discovered later in the Burroughs' archives. It is in fine condition. Volume spine darkened, a few stains to front cover, spine ends and corners rubbed; lacking the free endpapers, adhesion damage to pastedowns, else good in fine jacket

Presentation inscription by Burroughs to Ed Gilbert on the front free endpaper, "To Eddie from Ed, Aug. 12, 1939." Years later, Gilbert recalled this as "another birthday present from Ed." Tarzan is captured by a lovely but insane princess in the golden city of lions. This is the first book published by Burroughs to clearly state First Edition on the copyright, an indication of his growing awareness of the value of his books to collectors. Heins T18.1; Zeuschner 554. Jacket spine a little darkened, wear to spine ends and top panel edges, tape repairs along the top edge verso; volume spine rubbed and a bit faded, vertical crease, glue repair at head; offset to the free endpapers, else very good in slightly better jacket.

Illus. with 5 plates, incl. frontis., by J. Allen St. John. Blue cloth lettered in red, jacket. Second Edition. Inscribed by Burroughs on the front free endpaper, "To Edward Gilbert, with all good wishes, Edgar Rice Burroughs." Tarzan is captured by a lovely but insane princess in the golden city of lions. With Florence's two bookplates, as Florence Gilbert Burroughs below the inscription on the front free endpaper, and as Florence Gilbert Dearholt on the front pastedown. Tarzan encounters a movie safari and a bizarre city of talking gorillas run by a mad scientist. Heins T19.1; Zeuschner 627. The dust jacket, an original, is evidently one which was uncirculated and discovered later in the Burroughs' archives. It is in fine condition. The volume spine is darkened, some minor soiling to covers, else very good in fine jacket.

Another birthday present from Burroughs to Gilbert. Tarzan battle cannibals and temporary amnesia. Heins T20.1; Zeuschner 618. Though lost in the jungle themselves, Dick and Doc rescue a young girl from the beast men of Opar. This is a "Big Big Book" from Racine. First binding, with lettering on spine "Tarzan," then a picture of his head, then "Edgar Rice Burroughs" and the number 4056. Heins T21.1; Zeuschner 657.Some rubbing to extremities, top 1½" of spine strip replaced with the top edge of "Tarzan" relettered; normal darkening to the contents, hinges starting to crack at endpapers, else very good, a fragile book not often found better.

Tarzan's Quest ~ ERB, Inc.

Frontis. by J. Allen St. John. Tan-grey boards lettered in blue, jacket. Tarzan rescues Jane from a tribe of bestial white men who have found the secret of eternal youth. Illus. with 5 plates by John Coleman Burroughs. Blue cloth lettered in orange, 2 jackets. First Edition. Presentation copy from Edgar Rice Burroughs to his mother-in-law, inscribed on the front free endpaper, "To Maude, with best wishes, Ed. _____ Oahu, August 8, 1940." Maude was Maude Gilbert, Florence Gilbert Burroughs' mother, also Ed Gilbert's mother. Tarzan enjoys the company of a tribe of warrior women and encounters two rare gems with mysterious hypnotic powers. This copy with two examples of the original dust jacket. Heins T25.1; Zeuschner 749. One of the jackets is in fine condition with just a bit of darkening at the extreme lower edge; the other jacket with tear to lower front panel repaired with tape on verso, small stain at spine foot, other light wear, very good; the volume near fine with just a touch of rubbing to extremities (Maude was either a very careful reader, or...)

With frontispiece by John Colement Burroughs. Tan-gray boards, jacket. One of the survivors of the 1958 fire at the Burroughs' company warehouse, caused by the spontaneous combustion of old Tarzan motion pictures printed in nitrate film, with label to that effect on the front pastedown, but only slight evidence of smoke damage. Heins T25.2; Zeuschner 750. Tear to the top of the front panel of the jacket, with paper repair on verso, top page edges darkened from smoke, else very good or better in very good jacket.

Tarzan and "The Foreign Legion" ~ ERB, Inc.

Illus. with 5 plates by John Coleman Burroughs. Blue cloth lettered in orange, jacket. First Edition. Tarzan and his friends join the Dutch guerillas in Japanese-held Sumatra during World War II. The is the last Tarzan story to be published before Burroughs' death in 1950, drawn from his own experiences as a correspondent during World War II.  Jacket with thin darkened streak along rear joint, else near fine in like jacket.

First book publication of three stories which appeared in magazines in 1940 and 1941: Tarzan and the Champion; Tarzan and the Jungle Murders; and The Quest of Tarzan.
