This was clipped from the South Bend Tribune.
Unsure of the date, but at least 40 or so years ago
because they mention Bo Derek as Jane in 1981's "Tarzan, the Ape Man."

6. JOHNNY WEISSMULLER DOES HIS FAMOUS TARZAN "YELL"

There is a lot of uncertainty and confusion about the correct composition of
Johnny Weissmuller's Tarzan yell in the films.
A combination of a dog barking, the cry of a hyena backwards or the string of a violin.
But most consider that Johnny was able to approximate the "Tarzan yell" very well.
And he wasn't bored of sharing it on demand.
