Volume 7565

Number 5 ~ Spring 1953
This issue was originally mimeographed in two colors, black and red, and Joe was now publishing quarterly.  With four issues under his belt, he appeared to be receiving more article submissions.  This issue features short articles to the exclusion of simple book reviews, letters and personal ads.  The articles cover a range of subjects:  a look at ERB’s treatment of native Americans in “The War Chief” and “Apache Devil”;  an overview of Barsoom as envisioned by Burroughs;  Darrell C. Richardson’s efforts in tracking down “Ben, King of Beasts”;  and a checklist of ERB’s stories that were made into films.  The Barsoomian was transitioning to more of a real magazine rather than a collection of odds ‘n’ ends and sales/want lists.

The new cover for this reprint issue is by John Zazczsurynski.  As I recall, this is the only art he ever submitted to me, which is a shame because I thought it was very effective.  The back cover is another work by Dave Cockrum.
