DUM-DUM 2019: WILLCOX, ARIZONA
11a. MARTY ROBBINS MUSEUM
Room II
(Continued from Room 1)

Marty Robbins is considered by most to have been country music's most versatile singer. No other vocalist possessed a repertoire encompassing such a broad range of American popular song. He embraced traditional folk ballads, nineteenth century parlor songs, country weepers, honky tonkers, songs of the Old and New West (including his own brilliant compositions), rockabilly, teenage pop ballads and Tin Pan Alley standards. Hawaiian, blues, Tex-Mex and Jamaican music also coexisted on his records and on stage.

In thirty-one years of recording, Robbins was almost never off the country music charts. His musical and personal integrity were admired throughout the industry. Fans loved his boisterous, "anything goes" shows, marked by mugging and in-jokes  He jumped from song to song, from guitar to piano, from crooning to clowning. It was hardly surprising that less than two months before his death in 1982, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
